Experience Presence of God
Discovering the Heart of God
Try this spiritual exercise to help you experience presence of God:
I spent several months doing this exercise every morning. It was very helpful in healing some of the "lies" I have believed about God and myself.
1) Go to a quiet place. Take time to focus on God and still your heart.
2) Meditate on a verse of scripture (see suggestions below). Say this scripture softly over and over to yourself until you can say it (or a portion of it) with your eyes closed. [As you repeat the scripture, try to sense it in your heart, not just your mind.]
3) Ask yourself the following:
- What is the picture I see in my mind's eye as I repeat this scripture?
- What does the scripture reveal about the heart of God?
- What is God saying to me personally as I see the truth of this scripture? (Put yourself in the picture of this scripture.)
4) Take time to pray, speaking to God what you have seen and heard from Him today. Thank him as you experience presence of God.
